Aussie Street Food and My List for Sydney City! / Avustralya Sokak Lezzetleri ve Benim Sehirdeki En’lerim!

When it comes to street food, I might refuse eating anything all day just to be able to have every bit of the city.

Sydney is one of the best places to eat street food, as it's a home to many different cultures and diversity.

Here’s a breakdown of where or what to eat depending on the food, and of course my preferences.

I am so excited, lets get started!

////

Ben asiri heyecanlandim, haydi baslayalim!

  1. Meat Pies / Etli Paylar

Crunchy, flaky and full of flavour, pies are one of the most famous street foods in Australia. Aussies love the meat pie but there are always vegetarian options. My favourite is chicken & leek!

////

2. Fish and Chips / Kizarmis Balik & Patates

Fish and Chips is something you have to try if you have never eaten in Sydney. I’m not talking about how delicious it is, but to me, its something that you have to try - It is also a very common in the UK and other Commonwealth countries where it’s also served and eaten as street food. An important culinary dish culturally.

I recommend the eating this at the Sydney Fish Market, where you can hand pick your own fish and have the chef cook it for you, nice and fresh! And beer battered:)

/////
Ben hepsini sevmekle birlikte, Sidney’in meshur Balik Pazari’nda taze pisirilip servis edilenleri tavsiye ederim. Bira marinesiyle yapilanina da bayilirim:)

3. Sausage Roll / Sosisli Rulolar

Sausages aren’t only for barbie aye mate?:) Aussies love their snags on a barbecue and they cook BBQs everywhere, (even at Bunnings, a local hardware store) but there is another way to enjoy sausages: Sausage Rolls. Almost everywhere, even the corner shops and petrol stations sell these savoury pastries and its eaten with barbecue or tomato (ketchup) sauce.

Sosisli Rulolar burada hemen her yerde bulunabilecek sokak yemeklerinden biri. Disi citir hamur kapli bu lezzet genellikle sicak servis edilip barbeku sosu veya ketcapla yeniliyor. Sosis Avustralya kulturunde onemli, mangalda da olmazsa olmazlardan biri!

4. Sushi (Asian Food)/ Susi- (Uzak Dogu Yemekleri )

When I need to get things done outside and need to have a quick, healthy snack, I directly go for sushi rolls. They are delicious, easy to reach, and very cheap!

And you’re spoiled for choices from tuna, crab, chicken or vegetarian.

///

5. Gozleme - Kebabs / Gozleme ve Doner Kebap

IMG-20210408-WA0002.jpg

I was actually shocked when I first saw people in Sydney eating gozleme and doner kebabs and loving it! I can’t say I love the kebabs here but I definitely love gozleme.

All handmade, serve with lemon wedges, they managed to add flavours that are so suitable for an Australian palate such as; peri peri chicken, Mexican, or nutella & banana. My fav gozleme stall is the one at The Rocks (Turkish Gozleme at The Rocks). If you go there on a Saturday, you have to try it. You can thank me later:)

///

Avustralya’ya ilk geldiğimde ufak çaplı bir sok geçirmiştim insanlarin elindeki pizza kutularinin icinde gozleme gordugumde. Tabi döner kebap yerken de:) Doner icin ayni seyi maalesef söyleyemesem de gozlemelere ben de bayılıyorum. Hemen hepsi babaanne usulu, elde acma.

Cumartesi gunleri The Rocks’ta kurulan pazardaki gozlemeye de ayrica bayildigimi belirteyim.

From this point, I would like to continue sharing “My Favourite Food In The City”.

Meat Lovers Skewers / Cin Usulu Sisler

I recently discovered this place, or rather, the smell pulled me inside while browsing around Chinatown:) I instantly got a sniffle of deliciously barbecued meat and wanted to try. It was tender and juicy. I picked wagyu skewers with chilli. It could be one of the best snacks while wandering around the city!

///

Chinatown’a yakinsaniz muhakkak denenmeli!

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken/ Hot Star’in Kizarmis Tavugu

IMG-20210408-WA0013.jpg

Do you like fried chicken? Then you will be addicted to this tiny and very famous Taiwanese place in the heart of the city. These crunchy, deep fried, seasoned and huge chicken pieces are exactly for the ones who love to eat street food in one hand while wandering around the city!

Marrickville Pork Roll - Bahn Mi / Vietnam Usulu Sandvic

Bahn mi! This Vietnamese sandwich is absolutely one of my favourites, although I don't like pate, this roll was an exception. Thinly sliced and pickled carrots, turnip, chilli, coriander, spring onions, sauce and marinated chicken or pork meat. I can smell it now! Definitely try one of Marrickville Pork Roll branches. You will love it, I promise!

////

Desserts / Tatlilar - Emperor Puffs and Uncle Tetsu Tarts

Here is my weak point, desserts! Milky, puffy beauties on your way to the city. If you come by train to the city, just stop at Town Hall and visit Uncle Tetsu for their cheese tart, such an indulgence! I also tried the Japanese style cheesecake, but the tart is my favourite with its smooth texture of the cream and crumbly tart base.

If you’re looking for something even smaller, a sweet snack can be found in Dixon Street at Emperor’s Garden Cakes and Bakery in Chinatown. As you walk towards it, you will see people queued up for the puffs filled with custard. It’s freshly made, hot and delish. Also very cheap at 40c each or 5 for $2!

I will probably write another post for desserts only:)

////

Tatli benim hassas noktalarimdan biri bilindigi uzere ve Sidney’in sehir merkezinde aslinda iyi bilinen iki muhtesem yeri paylasmak istiyorum. Ilki Japon stili cheesecake ve  harika tartlar yapan Uncle Tetsu. Benim favorim krem peynirli mini tarti ama cheesecake de hic fazla sekerli degil, paylasmak icin ideal.

Ikincisi de Emperor’s Garden Cakes and Bakery’nin krema dolgulu pufflari. Yazarken bile agzimi sulandiriyor ve su an sehre gidip sicak sicak yeme istegi uyandiriyor bende.

Bubble Tea / Populer Uzakdoğu Caylari

Although there are many countries serving and adding their own touch to this drink, Bubble Teas’ birthplace is Taiwan. According to Wikipedia, last year on the 30th April it was officially declared as “National Bubble Tea Day” in Taiwan! I am a huge fan of it. There are thousand of places to have bubble tea but the one I found in Chatswood is the best so far: The Ally LuJiaoXiang! Order the Brown Sugar Deerioca & Fresh Milk (I order mine with Soy milk).

They originated in Taiwan and are very particular about how they make the tapioca pearls. A must try!!!

////

Kesinlikle denenmeli.

Bonus: Coffee / Kahve

I still didn't get used to having coffee as a first thing in the morning but If you are living/ visiting -ugh I know not now!:) - in Australia you have to try Australian coffee. The baristas are brilliant at most of cafes. In the city there are lots of places, I might write about those one day too. But first the one I really really like: Kingswood Coffee in World Square. Do not miss it!

////
